Wado Ryu Keri Uke No1

Steve and Neil face up, Steve in hidari gamae

Steve attacks mae geri, Neil slides back and to the side, and strikes the leg

Neil moves back in, attacking the ribs and jaw, and taking the knee

Discussion

Level 1: Defender must be very relaxed. As kick approaches, defender slides (suriashi) back, and to the side, so as to be just outside of range.  This means that the defender is just out of range of the attacker, but is in range for any response of his own. Parrying arm catches opponent's leg, helping it forward but redirecting off-line.

Defender slides back in, simultaneously striking the side of the ribcage, and the side of the jaw or neck. Attacker's knee is also struck.

Level 2: Attacker's leg is caught along the Gall Bladder at GB 36-39 on the calf, or alternatively GB34 on the calf, or GB 32 on the thigh, using a cutting action.

Follow-up double strike hits at Spleen 21 on the chest, and Stomach 5 on the jaw, using a waveform strike.

Level 3 (Principles and follow-up options:

You'll need to attend a seminar or a Teesside Dragon training session for this level
